Study of the Records Lifecycle
This newly revised study was commissioned by JISC in 2002 and undertaken by Elizabeth Parker, Director, Emmerson Consulting Ltd.  It seeks to build on and improve on the success of the previous study and provide a generic tool which all HEIs will be able to adapt and build upon within their institution, no matter at what stage of development their records management programme is at.

The previous study was commissioned by the Archives Sub-Committee of the Humanities Non-Formula Funding Committee (under the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the UK Higher Education Funding Councils).

Model Action plan
This action plan outlines the steps needed to create effective records management systems so that Freedom Of Information requests can be dealt with efficiently within the prescribed time limits.

Freedom of Information Act 2000: implementation and practice
This briefing paper covers:

  • The new legislative framework for public access to information held by public authorities, including schools, colleges and universities
  • The measures that should be taken to ensure compliance with the legislative framework
  • The ways the FoIA and Data Protection Act (DPA) relate to each other

Freedom of Information Act 2000: model publication scheme pilot projects
Six institutions have been funded to act as pilot sites for the JISC Model Publication Schemes for the FE/HE sectors. An introduction to this project and copies of their outputs are available.

Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) Implementation toolkit
Cimtech Ltd have been commissioned to develop an online toolkit to assist institutions considering or implementing an EDRMS solution within their organisation.  An introduction to this project and copy of the original Invitation to Tender are available. 

Evaluation of JISC's Records Management activities
A consultation and evaluation exercise was undertaken during May-July 2005 aimed at obtaining feedback from the sector regarding the usefulness and appropriateness of JISC's records management support activities to date. The second purpose of this exercise was to consult with records management practitioners within the sector to ascertain their views as to if and how JISC can best continue to support this area over the next two years.

This evaluation activity was undertaken on JISC's behalf by Cimtech Ltd.
