census dissemination unit logoCensus results provide a unique and invaluable source of detailed current and historical information relating to the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of populations and households within the UK. They have wide applicability and are used to underpin major research and decision-making in government, the private and public sectors, academia and many other spheres of life. The Census Dissemination Unit at Mimas currently provides services relating to the most widely used 'Aggregate Statistics' component of results from the 1971, 1981 1991 and 2001 censuses.

Services offered include access to, and support for the use of the Aggregate Statistics datasets together with a variety of derived and associated datasets such as deprivation scores and lookup tables. Search for content on all of the JISC services websites

Casweb, the web-based interface to the Aggregate Statistics, was developed by the CDU at Mimas to extend access to those engaged in short projects, The data is of interest to those doing local studies (health, housing etc.), and the web interface is simple to learn and use, requiring little prior knowledge of the content or structure of Census statistics.

The Census (Casweb) service requires users to register with their individual Athens username and password.
