JANET(UK) manages the operation and development of JANET, the UK's education and research network, on behalf of JISC for the UK Further and Higher Education Funding Councils.

What we can do for you

JANET is the UK education and research community’s highly reliable and secure world class infrastructure that enables national and international electronic communication. Through a collaborative and partnership approach JANET is not just a delivery mechanism for the Internet but also provides a set of wide-ranging and high quality application and advice services developed to meet the evolving needs of the community served.

The JANET Services include:

JANET case study

• IP services which enable users to communicate with each other and with the internet at large;
• application services to assist in the provision of electronic communication facilities;
• technology advisory services designed to provide best practice guidance and increase the effectiveness of the use of the Services;
• training services designed to assist in the use of the Services;
• administration services to facilitate certain functions; and

• network security services which provide response to network security incidents and provide information and advice on network security matters.

Each JISC Funded Organisation is eligible to receive a free JANET Primary Connection delivered in accordance with the JISC Funded Primary Connection Policy (word) and through the agreed Service Level Agreement between JISC and JANET(UK).

A Primary Connection delivers the full range of JANET Services.

JANET also operates the bulk of the JISC Network development programme.
