Eduserv is a
UK-registered charity which delivers innovative technology services
(including some JISC services) to education and the public sector. With the
contributions generated from these activities the Eduserv Foundation funds
initiatives supporting the effective application of ICT in education.

delivering innovative web related technology solutions to education and the

The Eduserv group is constituted as a not-for-profit registered charity
with a remit to realise the benefits of IT for learning, research and the
wider public good. Surpluses from Eduserv’s trading activities are
Gift-Aided to the charity. The Eduserv Foundation uses these funds to
support specific initiatives that promote the effective application of ICT
in education.

Access and Identity
Management Eduserv’s Athens service has been established as the
standard for single sign-on to protected online resources for many years.
Today over 3.6 million users worldwide gain access to hundreds of online
services via Athens. JISC has funded Eduserv to provides Athens/Shibboleth
interoperability via gateways during the
Access Management Transition Programme
to enable Athens users to access Shibboleth protected resources and Shibboleth
Identity Providers to access Athens protected resources whilst working on becoming
members of the federation in their own right.

e-Resource
procurement Eduserv Chest negotiates e-resource licence terms
and conditions on behalf of universities and colleges in the UK and
Republic of Ireland. Chest agreements deliver preferential licence terms
and conditions, saving money and eliminating the burden of complex
negotiation and licence term management for individual institutions.
Agreements are negotiated for products which are requested by the
education community and then managed on their behalf.

Content management solutions Eduserv has in-depth
experience of Content Management Systems and is a Certified Sitecore
Solution Partner. Sitecore’s .NET web content management and portal
software provides enterprise-class functionality, integration,
scalability and real value for money. The modular architecture (e.g.
Forms, Forum, StaCenter, Newsletter and Payment) allows features and
functionality to be added to websites quickly and easily. Sitecore is
well suited to non-technical users enabling them to easily create and
publish content on websites, intranets, extranets and portals.

Accredited catalyst supplier for web hosting Eduserv
provides secure, resilient, scalable, fully managed web and application
hosting services capable of guaranteeing 100% availability. In April 2006
Eduserv were awarded a framework agreement with OGCbuying.solutions. The
framework agreement allows customers throughout the public sector to
place orders with Eduserv under the standard terms and conditions of the
agreement.

Web applications development Eduserv has a highly
skilled team of certified Development Engineers to provide innovative
solutions to the most demanding requirements. Development Engineers have
extensive technical knowledge of operating systems, programming
environments, web tools and database technologies. Technical solutions
are based on recognised international standards and proven best of breed
technologies from established IT partners such as Microsoft, HP and Sun.
