EFX: Evaluation and Support for FAIR and X4L Projects

Start date: 1 January 2003

End date: 31 July 2003

Project website: http://www.cerlim.ac.uk/projects/efx/index.html

Introduction

The EFX Project is designed to provide support to projects in JISC’s FAIR and X4L programmes in the development of their project-level evaluation strategies. EFX will run alongside the EDNER and LinkER projects and will draw on the expertise of that work.

EFX is a short-term activity which will fill a gap in evaluation activity between the start of these two programmes and the commissioning of a major formative evaluation of JISC Development programmes. While that formative evaluation may not address the detailed needs of projects, it will be timely at that stage to consider what, if any, further support is needed at that level.

Aims and objectives

The aim of the EFX project is to provide evaluation advice to projects in the JISC FAIR and X4L programmes. Specific objectives are to:

  • provide a point of contact to evaluation expertise for FAIR and X4L projects
  • analyse FAIR and X4L project plans to determine their exact objectives and Workplan, including their approach to evaluation, and on that basis to form a view on possible appropriate evaluation strategies
  • provide a short toolkit of evaluation approaches and documentation for the use of projects
  • organise and run a workshop to present evaluation strategies and to offer ‘hands-on’ advice to projects
  • report to JISC on general issues arising from this activity
