Project Outline
The project will explore the issues involved in attempting to create learning objects from existing on-line learning resources. The materials in question are commercially produced key skills learning resources which have been developed for delivery via Teknical’s Virtual Campus. This Virtual Learning Environment and these particular resources are used effectively within the Coleg Llandrillo to support the delivery of Key Skills.
This project is a partnership entered into by Coleg Llandrillo and Teknical to explore the issues and processes which need to be followed in re-tasking existing content. The project will take a representative sample of materials that support the delivery of the Communication Key Skill at all three levels and attempt to re-task the sample resources into learning object format.
This project will attempt to create learning objects that could be used within the FE and HE sectors. The learning objects will be created within the context of the skill sets which students at a variety of levels on academic and vocational courses bring to their learning. Thus the project will be operating within a learning matrix so that the needs of a true cross section of learners will be explored.
Aims and Objectives
This projects aims to explore whether it would be possible to create learning objects which provide a student-centred supportive framework from existing learning resources which are not themselves object focused. It aims to explore whether it is possible to provide a structured approach and implementation plan for this type of activity. It will identify key stages which need to be followed in the transition from integrated resources to independent learning object resources. It will attempt to create learning objects for a cross section of students.
The learning objects will be created for a range of students following courses at Coleg Llandrillo:
-
HE
students following HNC and HND courses
-
Access
students
-
AVCE
students
-
A/S
students
-
Foundation and Intermediate
students
It is envisaged that students and tutors from the above courses will take part in the project. This will ensure that the learning objects will be tested and evaluated by students with different skill sets from academic and vocational learning pathways.
Future Plans
Ensuring the ongoing commitment of the curriculum areas to the testing phase as they approach the busiest time in the academic year – external inspection, preparation for exams, completion of course work.
This project has now ended. The final report is appended to this page as a WORD document.
