Introduction

This project aims to re-purpose existing math based learning objects into a central curriculum resource within a VLE, a math based knowledge map, and to offer learners identifiable learning pathways for individual and customisable support in acquiring underpinning knowledge and skills required to successfully complete accredited vocational training programmes.

Objectives

  1. To establish a formal project management framework alongside evaluation and dissemination plans for the effective design, development and delivery of the projects activities and partnership working by June 2002.
  2. To research the knowledge base of maths and the Earth Sciences learning need in the selected vocational qualifications in order to produce knowledge maps by August 2002.
  3. To populate the Knowledge Maps with identified learning objects from available resources and to develop or re-purpose any necessary learning objects where no JISC linked provision or other suitable materials can be identified to complete the Knowledge Maps by December 2002.
  4. To create learning pathways and learner-centred learning materials from the learning objects identified within the Knowledge Maps by February 2003.
  5. To re-purpose the learning material to the standards required for use within common VLEs by April 2003.
  6. To carry out usability trials based on activity testing and pedagogic impact analysis with three target groups (16-18 full-time, 19+ part-time and work-based distance learners) providing case study evidence and informing further process development by July 2003.
  7. To evaluate all activities and produce summative and formative reports along with full documentary evidence on all adopted processes and procedures by July 2003.
  8. To disseminate the work through a variety of media, working closely with the LLP.
  9. To mainstream the Knowledge Maps and all associated VLE linked learning materials by August 2003 so securing their future use, sustainability and value in support of learners on vocational study programmes.
