Introduction

The project is based on developing a repository of repurposed and new reusable learning materials in the areas of Informatics and Engineering for use in the further education community. Learning objects will be mapped to outcomes and modules in widely used vocational education programmes at NQF levels 1–3. The project aims to develop the basis of a service for the FE community related to that provided for the HE sector by EEVL. It will also relate to work developed through the Resource Discovery Network in cataloguing resources and promoting the use of e-learning resources throughout the FE community.

Aims and Objectives

The aims of the project in terms of its proposed products and outputs are:

• An online portal detailing project content
• Learning material developed from existing resources into a branded and consistent presented format
• XML records from a resource database to ensure interoperability with other resources and to conform to specified metadata standards
• Mapping to related curricula and search facility to locate material against specific subject and vocational level or learning programme
• Online assessment facility where appropriate
• Details of tools and processes used to produce materials
• Forum for discussion of materials and exchange of ideas
• Tools for additional content development and evaluation of material suggested for re-purposing
• Curriculum mapping information and review / discussion forum for commercial / proprietary e-learning material and systems in the related vocational fields.
