The first strand of this study will involve using the Model Action Plan as an audit tool. John Wheatley College will use the MAP in a FE setting by applying its recommendations within the framework provided by BS ISO 15489-1 Information and Documentation - Records Management - Part 1: General to audit its own progress to date in establishing good practice in the management of paper and electronic records, including the College's increasing number of digital assets, all of which are vital to the business of learning and teaching.

The second strand of the project will apply the findings of the audit to highlight any shortfalls in records management practices as they currently stand within John Wheatley College and will use the MAP to identifiy strategies for addressing these shortfalls.

The third strand of the project involves West Lothian College which has not yet established a formal records management service, in assessing further whether or not the John Wheatley College approach to records management can be replicated within the sector.
