Within the FE sector records management is becoming an issue that must be addressed proactively in order to meet upcoming deadlines imposed by legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act (2000).

As part of this project the City of Bristol College made some initial assessments of work to be done and identified a need to review the life cycle of their self-generated and externally provided documents in order that they can be held and accessed more appopriately. Doing this investigation in conjunction with the Lord Chancellor's Model Action Plan has ensured an integrated approach taking account of all aspects of the management system to be developed.

A strategy report has been generated based on needs identified by studying institutional requirements in this area.  The other partner colleges were involved in order to gauge the similarities and differences that resulted from differing size and geographic location.
