Aim
The overall aim of the Work-with-IT project is to gather up to date information on changing staff roles, relationships and associated skills brought about by the impact of the adoption of new technologies within UK FE and HE.
The focus is not on information skills or skills for harnessing technology per se, but on the impact of new ways of working on staff that arise from adopting ICT and technology supported practices.
In particular, it will explore the impact of technological change on the working practices and roles in UK FE and HE and investigate how individuals may need to adapt to fully exploit new business processes and capabilities.
Objectives
- Assess the impact and effect that new ways of technology enhanced working have had on staff in UK FE and HE institutions through
- A series of facilitated consultation workshops with key stakeholders
- Focussed consultancy work to address issue arising
- Develop a series of case studies based in UK FE and HE to illustrate new working practices, their impacts and staff development implications
- Provide advice and guidance for the UK FE and HE sector based on a synthesis of workshop and case study findings
- Develop recommendations for new approaches to staff development strategies that take into account the new skills, competencies and relationships required to exploit the benefits that new technology-enhanced ways of working may provide
Participation
To help explore the issues surrounding changes in working practices and to disseminate findings, the project is actively building a network of contacts, consisting of:
- Professional bodies
- Institutions
- UK FE and HE sector organisations
- JISC & JISC projects
- Interested individual practitioners
