JISC has funded a number of regional and collaborative projects to implement and evaluate the cross-institutional use of e-learning to support lifelong learning, including the provision of personalised learning experiences and flexible delivery to support progression, widening participation and work-based learning. The projects started in September/October 2006 and run for at least two years, until 31 March 2009 at the latest.

Birkbeck College myPlan Additional functionality for L4All (regional pilot) system - improved support for personalised progression planning, and game-based functionality for exploring decisions. Plus user modelling and link with UCAS web portal.
Bournemouth University PDP4XL2 Building on the PDP4Life regional pilot, evaluating creative industries student use of the ioPortal PDP system, mapping its data structures for PDP records against institutional systems, investigation of data transfer. Also exploring attititudes to PDP and eportfolios by health professionals and students. Links with lifelong learning network.
Bradford University ELP2 Piloting a range of social software to explore learner uptake of these compared to e-portfolios for use in progression and widening participation. Also investigation of impact of ILPs in schools and linking these with widening participation initiatives; and longitudinal evaluation of ELP regional pilot cohorts.
Chester University SOLVS Building on Learning Matrix and other regional pilots in the North West, to develop tools and infrastructure to support skills audit, course choice and application for work-based learning within 3 lifelong learning networks.
Derby University e-APEL Services grouped into a portal to support APEL processes through e-assessment for initial self-assessment, and then tools to support formal APEL submission through e-portfolio, including collaborative working.
London Metropolitan University Digital dialogue games Building on interLoc open source tool to improve functionality, integrate it with institutional systems, and use with a range of learners across a number of institutions.
Loughborough University Web PA Building on existing tool to support peer assessment of group work, making it open source and service-orientated, integrating with VLEs, and carrying out large-scale pilots.
Manchester Metropolitan University ioNW2 Building on Learning Matrix to develop e-administration infrastructure for tracking learners across institutions within a credit framework to support the three lifelong learning networks in the North West. Also work on representing information about skills for work-based learners and employers.
Manchester University HeLM  Extension of HORUS tool to support better reflection, use with assessment, teacher development, cross-institutional admin of workplace learning, and use in dentistry and pharmacy.
Nottingham Trent University Shibboleth-based CV builder Development of a web-service based CV builder that extracts relevant personal data from institutional systems using Shibboleth.
Nottingham University JOSEPH Building on RIPPLL regional pilot to develop web services for information, advice and guidance services, especially around new Specialised Diplomas, and link with local authority Passportfolio.
Southampton University mPLAT Develop a technical infrastructure to support practice-based learning, mentoring and assessment, and development, integration and piloting of two tools within this framework.
Staffordshire University SURF WBL-WAY Provision of a cross-institutional gateway (through webservices in uPortal) for work-based learners and those who support them - providing access to resources, plans, guidance etc.
