The proposal is to develop a short term scoping study, with a highly practical orientation, to determine the contribution which the virtual/remote laboratory could make to the development of a Shared Virtual Learning Environment (SVLE).

The objectives of the study are to:

  • Assess the applicability of different forms of virtual/ remote laboratory
  • Determine relevant technologies and standards and their feasibility in the light of the distribution of required technologies in the HE sector
  • Consider their relevance to home or work-based students
  • Estimate costs and savings including efficiency gains
  • Explore the educational benefits including the quality of the learning experience
  • Consider potential partnerships with local and regional businesses determine the relationship between technical frameworks and subject content
  • Recommend a development strategy to YHUA.
