A set of documents will be produced, describing steps taken to protect sites from email abuse. These steps include: preventing usage of campus resources for spam mail relaying, channelling incoming email via secure mailrouters, rejecting email from certain addresses and giving advice on handling unwanted messages in users' mailboxes. The reports will be based on the work done by Manchester Computing in this area, but will contain information relevant to, and useable by, any HE institution.
Deliverables will be announced in Network News and JISC News. Information will also be distributed to directors of computer centres and/or heads of user support. A summary of the report will be offered for publication as a JISC ASSIST Senior Management Briefing Paper. Results will be presented at workshops (one aimed at user support staff, another at networking specialists) and a seminar held in Manchester. Manchester Computing will add pointers to the information about the project and deliverables to its WWW pages. UKERNA CERT and JISC will be asked to add a pointer to this information from their pages.
