This proposal relates to a pilot project to consider systems to assist with the allocation of IT resources. The work revolves around the concept of building up an IT asset register through software auditing and using asset management systems to improve management controls release resources and improve user service. The relevant technology is already in the marketplace this project aims to increase the uptake in the UK
HE sector. In addressing the management of IT assets as re usable resources the Project considers issues that are generic in the whole of the UK
HE sector. A recent survey of CHEST sites provides strong evidence that the community requires a Project of this nature.
