New reports available
8 September 2006

  1. Learner Experience of e-Learning (LEX) project. The aim of the LEX project was to elicit reflective individual narratives of learning and explore the strategies e-learners adopt in order to cope with the demands of technology and learning in relation to other aspects of their lives. The LEX team conducted individual interviews and focus groups with a total of 55 learners. The team used the Interpretative Phenomenological Approach to capture and explore meanings that individuals assign to their own experiences. Artefacts such as learning logs or course materials were used during interviews to stimulate recall and instigate discussion of learning strategies and behaviours. The project has produced a  final report of the findings.
  2. Roadmap for e-Assessment. The Pedagogy strand has funded the development of a Roadmap for e-Assessment which looks to provide an overview of the current drivers and barriers to e-assessment in post-16 education. We are using a broad definition of the term e-assessment to cover summative (or high stakes) assessment, formative (or low stakes) assessment and diagnostic testing/assessment. See the final report.

Innovative Practice with e-Learning – new JISC publication
Innovative Practice with e-Learning is a new publication from the JISC e-Learning and Innovation programe which illustrates the use of mobile and wireless learning in everyday practice. Similar in approach to the earlier 'Effective Practice with e-Learning', this is an informative and approachable guide to embedding innovative technologies in ways that benefit both learners and institutions. Based around ten case studies from further and higher education, the publication illustrates practice that is already sufficiently established to be evaluated, and in the case of five of the case studies, supporting video clips give further insights into the benefits gained. The guide comes with a complementary CD-ROM which contains additional materials for use in staff development and in planning development of mobile and wireless learning in your institution. These include:

  • five video case studies
  • extended versions of all ten case studies as downloadable Word or PDF files
  • an institution-wide e-learning audit tool
  • three additional tools to plan implementation of mobile technologies designed for managers, practitioners and e-learning co-ordinators

Copies of this publication have been distributed to FE and HE institutions in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and to HEFCE-funded FE institutions in England. Additional copies can be obtained from publications@jisc.ac.uk.
