Large scale implementation of innovative technologies
Three projects have been selected from a large number of high-quality expressions of interest in implementing innovative technologies in response to an educational challenge within their institution. The selected projects will complete in April 2008. They are:
1. Racing Academy
University of Bath/FutureLab (gaming)
In partnership with Futurelab, Lateral Visions, University of Liverpool, Barnfield FE College, Penwith FE College, this project aims to develop the Racing Academy online game to support the delivery of science and engineering across four institutions and five courses.
2. Mobiles Enhancing Learning and Support (MELaS)
University of Wolverhampton/UltraLab (mobile and wireless technologies)
This project aims to provide generic pedagogic, pastoral and administrative support via SMS text messaging to 550 first-year students in the four schools that comprise the University Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CETL).
3. SIMPLE (Simulated Professional Learning) (TLE)
University of Strathclyde/FutureLab (gaming and simulations)
In partnership with Futurelab, the UK Centre for Legal Education (UKCLE), and two other HE Law Schools (currently out to tender by the Centre), this project will create the second iteration of an environment for professional learning – an open-source, open-standards transactional learning environment (TLE) – and will engage in large-scale evaluation of the implementation of this environment.
