Start date: 1 May 2004
End date: 30 November 2004
Funding programme: e-Learning Innovation programme
JISC theme(s): e-Learning, e-Administration
Background/Context
The University of Edinburgh is in the process of integrating and embedding its high quality video production team into a broader e-learning team, concurrent with a major review of space management, including student learning spaces. The opportunity to work collaboratively to develop video case studies which will in turn expose staff here to new and innovative ideas and approaches taken elsewhere is timely for us.
Aims and Objectives
The overall aim of this project is to produce five short video case case studies, each a few minutes in length. They will be created in collaboration with the team developing case studies in e-learning practice based at the Open University.
The specific objective is to produce five video case studies in a variety of delivery formats and with archive copies mastered to broadcast standard video tape.
Project Methodology
The case studies will be identified in collaboration with the team from the Open University and the programme manager, as will the overall shape of the videos. The case studies will be carefully selected to represent a range of innovations, educational contexts and pedagogies.
The project workplan will be divided into 6 broad areas:
- Identification of appropriate case studies
- Agreement of subjects and negotiation of any IPR concerns
- Agreement on general structure of the videos
- Pre-production
- Filming
- Post production
Implications/ Deliverables/ Stakeholders
The project will yield 5 video masters designed to complement the written case studies being created at the Open University. We can provide online access to streamed versions of the videos (FOC)and can arrange duplication of the tape masters if desired (at additional cost for dissemination purposes.
The process of identifying and creating the videos, and any experiences that the process has highlighted will be summarised in a short end of project report to JISC. It may be appropriate/useful to circulate such a document more widely, but that is difficult to reasonably predict.
