The first phase of 'e-Learning Framework Toolkits' took place in 2004, and following on from this the first phase of 'e-Learning Framework Demonstrators' took place in 2005.
Toolkit projects
These projects primarily concentrate on providing software libraries that enable developers to create applications that provide and consume services defined within the e- Framework . The service integration components developed during this activity will be made available to the community in the form of open source toolkits.
Demonstrator projects
These projects are aimed at trialling (that is install, test, demonstrate, evaluate and contribute to) the service definitions and toolkits in actual use within or between institutions.
To date, a total of 40 projects have been commissioned in this strand. This consists of four rounds of Toolkit projects and 3 rounds of Demonstrator projects, with the most recent set of toolkit and demonstrator projects running between January 2007 and August 2007. So far, 26 toolkits have been developed and 14 demonstrator projects have been undertaken.
Toolkits and Demonstrators projects review
This review was undertaken by CETIS as one of the activities of the e-Learning Framework support project, and took place between September 2006 and March 2007 alongside the Toolkits and Demonstrators programme. The review is a technical report into the outcomes of the programme, and not a formal evaluation of the programme itself. The review can be downloaded via the link under the 'documents and multimedia' section below.
