BlendEd is one of 6 e-Learning Transformation programme projects funded by the Scottish Funding Council.

The vision

The aim of the project was to move from traditional delivery models and to introduce a flexible, pedagogically sound model that ’blended‘ a range of approaches together in a way that utilised the benefits offered by Information and Communications Technology (ICT). To achieve this we proposed to adopt a practical approach to course redesign and collaboratively re-engineer individual curricular areas. Our aim was to maximise the use of existing resources such as teaching packs, Scottish Colleges Open Learning Exchange Group (COLEG) resources, National Learning Network (NLN) materials etc, and to make electronic support materials available in a format that would overcome technical and accessibility barriers.

From the beginning we were quite clear that this project was NOT about the wholesale adoption of e-learning to deliver courses without a consideration for its pedagogical appropriateness. We did not want to create what would essentially be online correspondence courses.
