JISC projects are commissioned (see funding opportunities) within HE/FE institutions, JISC services, associated bodies and commercial orgranisations, as part of a JISC programme. Outputs and lessons from these projects are made available to the HE and FE community.

19th century pamphlets online
This project will provide online access to the most significant collections of 19th century pamphlets held in UK research libraries. Digitising around 30,000 paper copy pamphlets, which focus on the political, economic and social issues that fuelled the great Parliamentary debates and controversies of the 19th century.
3D Visualisation Network in the Arts (3DVisA)
3DVisA promotes, enhances and extends the knowledge, understanding and opportunities enabled by digital 3D visualisation to research and pedagogy in the Arts and Humanities.
A digital library of core e-resources on Ireland
The digitisation of 100 key journals, 205 monographs and 2,500 manuscript pages from core Irish Studies collections makes this comprehensive, multi-disciplinary digital library the first point of contact for scholars and students seeking a convenient and comprehensive one stop shop for e-resources relating to Ireland.
Academic Writing Empowered by Socially Mediated Online Environments (AWESOME) Dissertation Environment
Our project adopts a user-centred methodology, actively engaging users (students, lecturers, staff developers, and student support) in the design, development, and evaluation of the AWESOME-Dissertation environment (ADE). ADE focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and utilises a pedagogy-led approach to demonstrate how next generation emergent technologies in social media can successfully develop student expertise in academic writing.
AGAST (Advanced Grid Authorisation through Semantic Technologies)
The AGAST project will investigate the extent to which semantic technologies will provide a flexible mechanism for easily-delegated access control. We will confront our existing prototype with a wide variety of challenging and realistic use-cases, drawn from the PIs’ engagement with current projects
AIDA
AIDA will create a self-assessment tool for describing institutional readiness and capabilities for digital preservation. The tool will take into account different states of institutional preparedness when recommending options or highlighting threats to assets.
AIR (Automated Archiving for an Institutional Repository)
The aim of the project is to develop a technology to automate the process of depositing large amounts of citation data in an institutional database. The technology will rely on the state-of-the-art methods for Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing to discover citation data of university staff on the Web. Carried out jointly by ILP and LIS of the University of Wolverhampton, the project is expected to stimulate growth of "Wolverhampton Intellectual Repository and E-theses" and potentially similar repositories in other organisation.
Alternate Reality Games for Orientation, Socialisation and Induction (ARGOSI)
Student retention is a key issue in Higher Education at the present time, and the quality of the induction process has been identified as a factor that can affect retention. Current models of induction do not always meet student needs, in particular, the increasing diversity of the student population is not necessarily reflected in induction period activities. The ARGOSI project will use an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) to support the traditional student induction process, and aims to provide an engaging and purposeful alternative to the established methods of introducing students to university life.
Approaching Teaching Learning and Assessment (ATLAS)
This project will address the need for educational development of the growing numbers of staff, teaching on higher education awards, for whom attendance on a traditional course, such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, proves impractical. This target group includes staff who are delivering higher education awards through franchised and partner colleges, abroad and in the FE sector, as well as hourly paid staff, who have an increasingly significant input to courses. The project would include using an action research approach to encourage reflection and engagement in the evaluation of the new award and reworked materials by the project team, learning support personnel, hourly paid staff and representatives from partner colleges.
APT STAIRS (Appropriate & Practical Technologies for Students, Teachers, Administrators and Researchers)
The APT STAIRS project will support the identification, testing, refinement and implementation of new collaborative technologies to create a common space where users (students, teachers, administrators and researchers) with different skills can work together online. The project will, in particular, focus on the use of GoogleDocs and other online document creation tools as these are seen to be sufficiently appropriate and practical to ensure uptake and adoption across the six partners in the Bloomsbury Colleges consortium. The project will evaluate and publish clear processes (and any additional tools) that enable users to enhance intra- and inter-institutional collaborations, which will be of wide applicability across the entire education community.
