Circular 3/05: Call for projects in digital repositories

Submission Deadline: 07 April 2005 13:00

Programmes: Digital Repositories programme 2005-7

This circular invites HE institutions funded via the UK funding bodies, FE institutions funded directly by HEFCE, and FE institutions in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and their consortia, to submit funding proposals for projects in the area of digital repositories.

Due to the funding streams available for this programme, English FE institutions not directly funded by HEFCE are not eligible to bid for projects. English FE colleges funded directly by the Learning and Skills Council may only be involved as partners to other projects.

This programme is intended to help the learning and research community move forward with all the issues involved in setting up and using digital repositories.

The scope of the programme includes consideration of repositories being set up within institutions, and the interaction of repositories within the national and international context. The programme is concerned with the range of repository content that can support learning and research: ePrints of journal articles, learning objects, technical reports, multimedia, research datasets etc. The programme will also include an investigation of more informal repository issues such as personal repositories.

Funding is available for projects of up to two years duration. A total of £3,500,000 - £4,000,000 is available over two years to support this programme. As a general guideline, it is anticipated that most projects will be awarded funding of between £25,000 and £200,000.

The deadline for receipt of proposals is 13:00 hours on Thursday 7 April 2005. Projects should commence in June 2005.
