Committees: JISC Learning and Teaching committee
Programmes: e-Learning Pedagogy programme
At the start of the e-Learning programme, JLT set up a steering group for each strand (Innovations, Pedagogy and e-Learning Framework and Tools) to steer the work of the strand and support the programme manager. The groups were chaired by a committee member and comprised members from the committee, other JISC sub-committees and the community.
A group to support the e-Learning Framework and Tools (ELF) strand was set up but it was found that there were not enough members of the committee with the appropriate expertise to support this work and the group folded fairly quickly. However the JLT members were invited to join the e-Framework group.
The Innovations Group included members from other JISC sub committees as it was felt that the innovations work was relevant to other committees.Inevitably members resigned and replacements were not forthcoming. The group folded when the chairman resigned from JLT in March 2006.
The Pedagogy Steering Group (chaired by Peter Findlay, JLT member) had the most members from JLT and included members from the community. The group continues to work with the Programme Manager who has encouraged and supported the group. This group is the least technical of the committee’s groups and has been easier to populate. The group will continue until July 2007 when the initial programme work is due to finish and the current chair’s membership of JLT ceases.
JLT is discussing the restructuring of the e-Learning programme into themes with the expectation that steering groups will also be restructured.
