The role of JISC Content Services committee is to provide high quality information, content resources and services to facilitate excellence in learning, teaching and research ensuring that the JISC community is fully poised to meet the challenges of the knowledge economy.

This supports the JISC strategic aims to:

  • Deliver innovative and sustainable ICT infrastructure, services and practice that support institutions in meeting their mission
  • Promote the development, uptake and effective use of ICT to support learning, teaching and research

Terms of Reference  

Oversee the development of a holistic JISC e-Content Strategy to provide scholarly collections and educational on line resources to support learning, teaching and research, that includes: 

  • Identification, negotiation and licensing of e-content
  • Digitisation of key collections to support research and teaching and developing skills at an institutional and organisational level to deliver excellence in digitisation and the management of digital collections
  • Working with the JISC Integrated Information Environment, Support of Research and Learning and teaching committees to provide appropriate resources and facilitate the discovery and use of digital resources, in particular open and community generated content
  • Promoting the development, uptake, widening access and effective use of e-content in a sustainable way to support life long learning
  • Working with key partners across the public sector and beyond (including international partners) to ensure that content is delivered in a convenient and interoperable way and that best value can be gained from investment in e-content

Oversee sustainable ICT infrastructure and services to deliver appropriate access to all kinds of educational content:

  • Promoting awareness and improving the take up of JISC e-content and related services to ensure that these resources and services can be effectively deployed and exploited to support learning and research
  • Ensuring that e-content resources can be discovered and managed effectively through the provision of resource discovery and infrastructure services
  • Ensuring that a range of e-content can be effectively created and used to support teaching and research through steering the delivery of appropriate services to advise the community
  • Developing appropriate business models to ensure sustainable access to e-content resources and appropriate services
