JISC Network committee is charged with providing a pervasive, leading edge, network infrastructure. It has two bodies to assist in this work - the Monitoring Unit and the Development sub-committee.

Terms of reference

  • ensure the provision of an adequate national network, with appropriate central connectivity to further and higher education institutions and the Research Council community
  • determine policy for network use including connection policy (particularly to widen access to students and communities of relevance to post-16 education and research) and acceptable use policy
  • determine appropriate funding regimes in consultation with the funding bodies and user community
  • determine appropriate levels of service for network provision, including remedial actions, and monitor the delivery of the service
  • promote research and development in network technologies of relevance to improving services
  • promote the development of appropriate network security applications in collaboration with the JISC Support for Research and Integrated Information Environment committees
  • engage with JANET(UK) in the above through two way collaboration in policy determination
  • liaise with other JISC sub-committees
  • liaise and collaborate with other organisations, especially the Research Councils, DIUS, DTI, DCMS, and others interested in common network provision
